Breathmobile

The Mobile Asthma Clinic, or Breathmobile Program, is based on the premise that effective outpatient health care can be provided to underserved inner city individuals through an outreach health care model that integrates existing public and private resources. Specifically, this program will prove that a mobile asthma clinic program partnered with leading medical and academic institutions can link existing community resources to overcome barriers to care and provide preventive asthma therapy. The mission of this program is to provide this care to high-risk, inner city individuals at schools and residential areas in order to improve health outcomes, public health utilization and the cost effectiveness of health care for these patients.

FACTS:
The Breathmobile will visit schools in Baltimore City to assess individuals identified to be at high risk for asthma and allergic diseases due to limited access to care and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The breathmobile will house a doctor specializing in asthma treatment, a nurse, respiratory therapist and patient service worker to be on board the mobile unit during each visit.

In the Baltimore City/Washington D.C. area, asthma prevalence has been shown to be as high as 20%. In many hospitals, it is the number one reason for pediatric emergency visits.

Treated children and adults will receive follow-up visits by the Breathmobile staff to ensure that their health management plan is effective, their medical care needs are being met and that their individual management plan is in place.
